Notes from the SocioLab

Here are some notes in case you missed Randi's talk today!

Effects of landscape and community membership in reference frames in Isthmus Zapotec

What influences reference frame use in small-scale space?

GLMER, LMER models to analyze data

Landform classification used in analysis

Try to be more qualitative in analysis and look at the community itself instead of using more general classifications

Population and topography are independent factors influencing reference frame use: What is the role of culture in these geographic effects, and at what level of granularity do they start to matter?

Randi's project:

Variation between communities!

Community membership is the only significant factor in predicting reference frame use

North-South winds: Remarkable

Weather patterns count as geography

Ethnophysiographic elicitation to see what's salient

No universally-agreed upon set of variables that describe the Earth's crust
